A training weekend was held on the Saturday and Sunday and was attended by 8 new assessors, 3 trainers and myself. The theory training was held at Dooralong community hall using some tracks in the Watagans Forest area for the practical exercise and the assessment. Those who camped did so behind the hall.
The object of the weekend was to train new assessors and to increase the number of trainers who can carry out the training. The training session was attended by members of Port Macquarie and Districts 4wd club, Newcastle and Districts 4wd club, Central coast 4wd club, Newcastle Land Rover club, Lakes 4x4 club, Land Rover Owners club and Sydney District 4x4 club.
The weekend was a lot of fun with a very keen and experienced bunch.
This club has been enthusiastic in wanting to do some track classification training so much so that we expect to have 12 of their members on this training weekend. The venue will be at the Capertee Memorial hall and probably camping at Glen Davis. Tracks we will train on will be around the Turon and in Gardens of Stone NP.
As I need to complete a project to present to the lands committee in July I will heading up to Newnes plateau to do an example quick run through from Zig Zag to Baal Bone Gap. This should be pretty straight forward. We now have groups of track classifiers in Sydney region, Hunter region and the ACT. We should now be in a position to build some track classification projects. I have plans to carry out some more training sessions in the Illawarra and Canberra and anywhere else or with any club that is interested to form a group for track classificationIn the next couple of weeks I will put together some suggestions for tracks that we would like to have classified in different regions over the coming months.Chris KeysChair – Track classification committee.
