  1. Closed parks: Abercrombie Karst Conservation Reserve closed
    Abercrombie Karst Conservation Reserve will remain closed to the public until 2026 due to ongoing flood repairs and enhancements to visitor services and facilities. NPWS will announce a reopening date in the new year.
    The closure affects the entire reserve, including walking tracks, campgrounds, Arch Cottage, caves and trails.

  2. Closed areas: Tavern Creek Road Closure
    Tavern Creek Road in Abercrombie River National Park is currently closed for maintenance.

    A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:
    • They're under direct control of an adult
    • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials

  7. Closed areas: Area permanently closed - Mermaid Pools
    Access to Mermaid Pools is permanently closed including for swimming. Sudden large swells and tides create major waves that wash over the rocks and pools.
    Do not access this area. The severe conditions at this site have caused a number of significant injuries and deaths in the past.
    Mermaid Pools have never been a designated visitor site due to the extreme nature of the surf and tides at this location. There is no approved public access walking track to Mermaid Pools.

  11. Safety alerts: Road damage due to severe weather
    Several roads within Bago Bluff National Park have sustained significant erosion damage due to severe weather events earlier in 2025.
    • Access to Bago Bluff Lookouts and Rollover Road is best gained via Milligans Road, turning onto Rollover Road.
    • Access to the Lorne Flora Reserve Walking Track is best approached from the east via Blackbutt Road.
    NPWS crews and contractors are currently undertaking repairs to affected roads and trails. Please be aware that plant and machinery may be encountered during these works.

  16. Closed parks: National parks closed due to flood damage
    The following reserves are closed until further notice due to flood impacts;
    • Barrakee SCA
    • Coocumbac Island NR
    • Killabakh NR
    • Wingham Brush NR
    Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters.

  17. Closed areas: Hoddles Track walking track is closed due to dangerous track conditions and fallen trees
    Hoddles Walking Track in Barren Grounds Nature Reserve is closed due to dangerous track conditions and fallen trees.
    The track will remain closed to the public until works on the track can be completed. As soon as the track is declared safe and can be re-opened, the NPWS website will be updated.

    Other planned events: 1080 fox ground baiting program
    NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting a continual and ongoing 1080 ground baiting program for the control of foxes from Thursday 17 July 2025 to Friday 16 January 2026
    The program targets target foxes in the Carrington Falls, Budderoo Plateau, Knights Hill and Barren Grounds areas. Bait stations are located on NPWS estate and Crown road reserves with permissions. Both buried baits and Canid Pest Ejectors are used in this program.
    The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, particularly the threatened species within these areas.
    1080 baiting signs are at all entries to the baiting location. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. 
    Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

  18. Other incidents: Barrington Tops Forest Road closures
    The severe weather event in May 2025 has caused major damage to Barrington Tops Forest Road in a number of places, forcing MidCoast Council to close the road on the eastern side of Barrington Tops. There is currently no access to the Barrington Tops plateau, or Scone via the Barrington Tops Forest Rd from Gloucester.
    The same weather event has also caused major damage on the western side of the plateau, forcing Upper Hunter Shire Council to place a 2.5T load limit on the section of road west of the Dingo Gate - see 2.5 tonne Load Limit in Place – Barrington Tops Forest Road - UHSC.

    Closed areas: Blue Gum Loop walk closed due to damaged pedestrian bridge
    The Blue Gum Loop walk in Barrington Tops National Park is closed because of damage to a major pedestrian bridge across the Williams River. Access to Rocky Crossing walk is still possible from the access road into Williams River Picnic Area or from Williams Top Picnic Area. For your safety, please follow onsite signage and do not enter closed areas.

    Safety alerts: Williams Top Rd - 4WD recommended in wet conditions
    Williams Top Rd (in Chichester State Forest) has been reopened, allowing vehicle access to Lagoon Pinch Picnic Area (start of the Corker Trail). However, 4WD is recommended in wet conditions due to slippery surfaces. Drivers should be experienced and well prepared as mobile coverage in the area is limited.

    Closed areas: 4WD Trail Closures
    Most of the public-accessible 4WD trails in Barrington Tops National Park and State Conservation Area have now re-opened, after the annual season closure period.
    However, the following 4WD trails remain closed, due to trail conditions:
    • Tugalow Trail
    • Thunderbolts Trail - between Barrington Tops Forest Road and Pheasants Creek Road
    • Barrington Trail south past the Junction Pools Trail
    This closure does not effect public vehicle access to the Little Murray and Junction Pools campgrounds.  Gummi Falls campground is only accessible via Bullock Brush Trail.
    Walkers and mountain bikers are still permitted to utilise the trail while it is closed to public vehicles.

    Safety alerts: Feral Cat 1080 program - Gloucester Tops
    NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is undertaking a Felixer feral cat pest management program the Gloucester Tops part of the park from Friday 28 March 2025 to Tuesday 31 March 2026.
    This program is designed to minimise the impact of feral cats on wildlife, especially the endangered rufous scrub-bird and broad-toothed rat. There will be signs at all baiting locations.
    The operation will involve the use Felixer 1080 cartridges, containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison, dispensed by a Felixer unit, for the control of feral cats.
    Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

    Closed areas: Burraga Swamp Walk Closed
    Burraga Swamp walking track is currently inaccessible to vehicles due to closure of Mt Allyn Rd. Forestry Corporation of NSW has closed the road due to a failed bridge. The reopening date is not known at this stage. For more information, phone Gloucester NPWS Office on 02 6538 5300.

    Safety alerts: Visitor Safety Alert: Feral Horses
    Feral horses move through this campground day and night. Campers at Little Murray and Polblue campgrounds should set up tents as close to their vehicles as possible.
     
    Aggressive horse behaviour can pose a safety risk for visitors. Aggressive behaviour includes snorting, head bobbing, stomping front legs, ears erect, aggressive stance and approaching in an aggressive manner.
     
    What to do around aggressive horses:
    · avoid the animals, especially if a stallion is present and there are mares nearby
    · retreat to your vehicle
    · wave your arms around and make lots of noise
    · walk in a group rather than as an individual
    · always be aware of your immediate surroundings.

    Closed areas: Phytophthora quarantine area - Barrington Tops National Park
    Phytophthora is a mould that causes dieback in plants. It's been found on the plateau in Barrington Tops National Park, predominantly on the Watergauge trail between Beean Beean and Black Swamp. The affected area is under quarantine with absolutely no visitor access.
    Phytophthora is readily spread by mud carried by walkers' shoes and mountain-bike tyres. There are boot wash stations across the plateau for walkers to use, to ensure their boots 'Start clean, Stay clean'.

  19. Other incidents: Barrington Tops Forest Road closures
    The severe weather event in May 2025 has caused major damage to Barrington Tops Forest Road in a number of places, forcing MidCoast Council to close the road on the eastern side of Barrington Tops. There is currently no access to the Barrington Tops plateau, or Scone via the Barrington Tops Forest Rd from Gloucester.

    The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program using Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) and fresh meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. The 1080 bating program is ongoing and will continue to be conducted between 15 August 2025 and 15 February 2026 within Beni State Conservation Area. All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

  39. Closed areas: Trails within Black Bulga SCA closed due to severe weather event
    Trevor Tops Rd in Black Bulga State Conservation Area and Cabbage Tree Rd in Chichester State Forest (Main Creek area) are closed until further notice due to impacts from flooding and severe weather.
    Roads leading to the reserve have been damaged and pose a hazard to road users. Roads and trails within the reserve need to be inspected for damage and fallen trees. NPWS will reopen the trails once they are inspected and any issues remediated.

  40. Closed areas: Parts of Blue Mountains National Park closed
    Many roads, fire trails and walking tracks in Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to infrastructure repairs, upgrades or damage caused by wet weather including subsidence, rockfalls, landslides and fallen trees.
    The following roads/tracks/sections are closed:
    Katoomba and Leura
    • Honeymoon Bridge is closed due to rockfall hazards. (Visible bridge from Echo Point. Side route off Three Sisters Track and Giant Stairs).
    • The folloing tracks accessing Leura Cascades will be closed for a helicopter operation 15/12/2025.  Prince Henry Cliff walk between Tallawalla lookout and Tarpeian Rock lookout, Leura Cascades track, Amphitheatre track, Fern Bower, Dradanelles Pass & Federal Pass North of Giant Stairs
    • Part of Prince Henry Cliff Walk and Grand Cliff Top Walk is closed between Leura Cascades and Kiah Lookout due to a landslide. Short detour via Cliff Drive.
    • Parts of Federal Pass and Dardanelles Pass are closed Tuesdays to Fridays for repairs. There is no valley access from Giant Stairs to Leura Forest on these days.
    • Amphitheatre Track is closed due to a landslide and upgrade works. Access to valley & Leura Forest is via Fern Bower. 
    • Katoomba Falls Round walk (west) is closed for track upgrade works from Wednesday 5 November to Wednesday 31 December 2025. Scenic World Valley Stations and Federal Pass can be accessed via Furber steps.
    • Leura Cascades parking area and toilets are closed. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
    • Glenraphael Drive (Narrow Neck fire trail) is closed to vehicles near Cliff Drive due to a road subsidence. Walkers and cyclists are permitted.
    • Part of Lindeman Pass is closed due to a major landslide below Gladstone lookout. Roberts Pass is closed due to rockfall and landslide hazards.
    • Six Foot track is closed at the boundary to the Jenolan Caves Karst Conservation Reserve. the Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve (including the Caves Visitor Precinct) is closed until 31/12/2026. There is no access to the entire reserve during this time.
    Wentworth Falls and Woodford  
    • Wentworth Falls Picnic Area & Henry Burrell Drive will be closed to vehicles for tree work on the 17 & 18 December 2025. Visitors will be permitted to walk in. Some walking tracks will also be closed near the operation. Detours will be in place. NB: There are limited options for buses to turnaround after Fletcher St.  
    • Part of National Pass (west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing) is closed due to a major landslide and ongoing risks.
    • Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed due to elevated boardwalk repairs. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls routes. 
    • Valley of the Waters is closed below Silvia Falls due rockfall hazards. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls.
    Blackheath, Mount Victoria, Megalong Valley and Bells Line of Road 
    • Pulpit Rock Reserve, lookouts and part of the walking track are closed. For more information visit the Blue Mountains City Council website. Pulpit Rock walking track from Popes Glen is open as far as the NPWS boundary (as shown on Google maps).
    • Govetts descent and parts of Rodriguez Pass are closed due to rockfalls and landslides. Valley access from Blackheath is via Horse Track.
    • Dunphys campground and Green Gully Road are closed for maintenance and upgrades from Monday 13 October to Monday 22 December 2025. No pedestrian or vehicle access during this time. Hiking access to the Wild Dog Mountains and Cox's River corridor is available from the Narrowneck Plateau.
    • Point Pilcher Road will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians from Monday 8 December to Friday 19 December 2025 for road maintenance. Pedestrian access will be permitted on the weekend (Saturday 13 December and Sunday 14 December 2025).
    • Asgard Swamp Trail will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists from Monday 8 December to Friday 19 December 2025 for road maintenance. 
    • Victoria Falls Road will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians from Monday 15 December 2025 for 1-2 weeks for road maintenance. Pedestrian access will be permitted on the weekend (Saturday 20 December and Sunday 21 December 2025).
    Adventure recreation, canyons, abseiling and rock climbing
    Some adventure recreation areas and routes may be closed where the access or exit road/track is mentioned above.

    There will be no access to the campground from Carlon Creek Track, Bellbird Ridge Firetrail, Ironmonger Track or Ironpot Track. Walkers will need to exit via Narrowneck Trail.

    Remote routes within the Kanangra Wilderness Area including Kanangra to Katoomba (K2K) trail have been impacted by heavy fire regrowth and flood damage.
    In some places, tracks are no longer visible and are not easy to navigate, taking longer to traverse than expected. Limited to zero water sources are currently available along routes.
    If you plan to walk in the area, please ensure you have an appropriate level of experience, navigation skills and equipment including Personal Locator Beacon (PLB).
    Mobile reception is limited so alternative communication methods are strongly recommended.

    Vehicle access in Boonoo Boonoo NP is restricted to a maximum of 40km/h throughout the park, and some areas with shared pedestrian access are restricted to 10km/h.   51. Closed areas: Rawson Falls Walking Trail closure
    Part of the Rawson Falls Walking Trail remains closed due to extensive damage caused by the May 2025 major flood event. Sections of the trail are affected by dangerous trees, and a significant landslip has occurred on the track leading to the base of the waterfall.
    The picnic area as well as the top section of the walking trail to the lookout platform are open.
    The section of trail below the lookout will remain closed while planning approvals and procurement are completed to remediate the landslip.

    The Border Loop Lookout and walking track will be closed to all visitors to allow for essential roadworks on the Lions Road.
    The Lions Road will be closed to all visitors between Standfield's Bridge at Cougal and the Queensland border.

    Trails in Brindabella National Park become wet and slippery following wet weather conditions. Traction may be difficult in some sections and some trails may become impassable. McIntyres Trail, Lowells Flat Trail and Waterfall Trail are steep 4WD only trails which can become slippery and unsafe after or during rain events. Caution is advised if you are travelling to the following areas after or during periods of wet weather:
    • McIntyres campground
    • Lowells Flat campground
     
    These trails require high clearance 4WD vehicles only, with low range capability, off-road tyres and 4WD experience required. AWD and SUVs are not suitable. There is very limited to nil phone service in these areas to call for assistance.
    Trail and crossing closures may be implemented at short notice with updates provided on the NPWS website. Always check weather forecasts and the NPWS website for closures and updates before heading out into remote areas and trails.

    The area south of Bambara Road and Corrumbine Creek along the Koolewong Fire Trail towards Koolewong / Woy Woy is closed due to fire fighing operations. 
     
    All formal and informal acess tracks and trails in this area are closed.

    Somersby Falls walking track, including access to the middle and bottom waterfalls will be closed until 19 December 2025 while the track is upgraded.
    The picnic area and carpark will remain open during the works.
    Consider visiting the nearby Girrakool picnic area less than 5 minutes away which also has waterfalls, walking tracks and a well established picnic area.

    Part of Piles Creek Loop Walking Track will be closed until 30 June 2026 while rockfall investigations and mitigation works are undertaken.

    Areas that will remain open are:
    • Piles Creek Loop Walking Track on the eastern side of Piles Creek 
    • Access to the Great North Walk from Girrakool Picnic Area 
    • Bundilla Lookout

    Due to essential capital upgrades following the 2019/2020 bushfires, the Castle Walking Track in Morton National Park will be closed from 1 September 2025 to 30 April 2026.
    This closure affects the following areas:
    • Castle Walking Track and Car Park
    • Cooyoyo Campgrounds
    • Long Gully Campgrounds and Picnic Area
    • Byangee Walls Walking Track
    Although Long Gully Campgrounds and Byangee Walls Walking Track are not part of the upgrade works, they will remain closed for the duration of the project. These areas fall within the broader construction footprint, and access restrictions are in place to ensure public safety during the works.
    The walking track upgrade works will include like-for-like infrastructure replacement, improved drainage, and erosion and sediment control measures to ensure long-term sustainability and visitor safety.

    Areas of Budderoo National Park are closed between 5:00pm Monday 1st December and 09:00am Friday 19th December 2025 for a pest animal ground shooting operation. The closed areas are:
    • Douglas Creek Trail
    • Powerlines trail east of Carrington Falls

    NPWS encourages you to plan your visit outside of peak periods of 11am to 2pm. 
    The Park can also close at short notice due to severe weather conditions.

    NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting a continual and ongoing 1080 ground baiting program for the control of foxes from Thursday 17 July 2025 to Friday 16 January 2026
    The program targets target foxes in the Carrington Falls, Budderoo Plateau, Knights Hill and Barren Grounds areas. Bait stations are located on NPWS estate and Crown road reserves with permissions. Both buried baits and Canid Pest Ejectors are used in this program.
    The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, particularly the threatened species within these areas.
    1080 baiting signs are at all entries to the baiting location. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. 
    Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs).     The program will take place in Budelah Nature Reserve as weather and seasonal conditions allow. Australian wildlife has a naturally high tolerance to 1080 and will not be negatively impacted.
    The program is designed to minimise the impact of feral pigs on native vegetation, wildlife and neighbouring enterprises.

    If you're planning to undertake the Red walking track or any activities within Bungonia Gorge, please assess water levels before continuing through the Bungonia Slot Canyon. If in doubt, turn back. Do not enter flood waters. Report conditions via the park register book on-site.

    Corrie Island Nature Reserve is closed from Friday 1 August 2023 to Sunday 31 March 2026 for the protection of beach-nesting shorebirds.
    Corrie Island is an important breeding site for endangered little terns and pied oystercatchers. The island is closed to visitors for the duration of the nesting season to reduce disturbance that can cause egg or chick deaths.
    During the closure period visitors may not land anywhere on Corrie Island, and only NPWS staff and authorised volunteers are allowed on the island. Pest control activities may be undertaken on the island during this time.

    Cullendulla Beach is changing shape from the impacts of coastal erosion.
    During high tide, walking access via the beach into Cullendulla Creek Nature Reserve from the carpark on Myamba Parade may be restricted by the ocean.
    While in the reserve, visitors should continue to monitor conditions and time their walk with a lower tide.

    Safety alerts: Trailer access prohibited on some fire trails
    The use of trailers is prohibited on the following trails in Deua National Park:
    • Dampier Mountain trail
    • Oulla Creek trail
    • Minuma Range trail
    • Merricumbene trail
    • Mongamula trail
    • Dry Creek trail
    It is an offence to tow trailers on these trails. The penalty for towing trailers on these trails is a $300 penalty infringement notice, or higher if the matter is taken to court.
    Trailer access to Bendethera is available from Moruya via Little Sugarloaf Road and Bendethera trail. From Braidwood, this increases travel time by about 30 minutes to 1 hour.

    Safety alerts: River crossing to access Big Hole walking track - extreme caution advised
    Access to The Big Hole walking track requires a river crossing of the Shoalhaven River.
    During periods of rain, water levels of the river crossing may become too deep and fast flowing to pass, and extreme caution is advised. Visitors should not attempt crossing the river during major weather events or during prolonged periods of rain, when river levels can rise rapidly.
    NPWS advises walkers to plan ahead and check the river levels in real time at https://realtimedata.waternsw.com.au/water.stm?ppbm=215008%7C215_SHOALHAVEN%7CSURFACE_WATER&rs&1&rslf_org   before setting out.

    Closed areas: Bendethera Caves Walking Track and Caves Access is Closed
    Bendethera Caves walking track and caves access is closed until further notice due to ongoing bushfire and flood recovery works - all track markers were destroyed by fire. It's dangerous to walk off designated tracks in Karst areas. Please do not enter this area, follow the directions on closure signs and do not enter any cordoned-off areas.

    Safety alerts: Bendethera Valley Campground - Safety Alert
    Please use extreme caution if traversing the river crossings and check weather conditions regularly prior to your trip in this area.
    During periods of rain, water levels of the river crossings in to the Bendethera Valley campgrounds may become too deep and fast flowing to pass, and extreme caution is advised. Visitors should not attempt crossing the river in vehicles to access the campgrounds during major weather events or during prolonged periods of rain, when river levels can rise rapidly. It is never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters. You should check the weather forecast and NPWS website for advice prior to setting out to this remote campground, and if severe weather is forecast, reconsider your trip.

  126. Closed areas: 10B and 10C Trails Closed
    The 10B and 10C Trails in the vicinity of Northcliff Coal Mine, in Dharawal National Park is closed for the decommissioning of disused powerlines from 07:00am Monday 15 December 2025 to 17:00 Wednesday 17 December 2025. Aircraft will be operating in this area.

  127. Closed areas: Area closed for conservation works
    Some parts of this park are closed from Monday 24 November to Monday 2 February 2026 while conservation works are being undertaken on Devines Hill. The closed areas are:

  128. Closed areas: The Glade picnic area closed for construction works
    The Glade picnic area in Dorrigo National Park is closed for construction works from 7am Wednesday 10 December to 5pm Friday 19 December 2025.

    Closed areas: Red Cedar Falls, Slingsbys trail and Tristania Falls remain closed due to flood damage
    Slingsbys trail, Red Cedar Falls and Wonga Walk from the Gondwanan circle to Hardwood Lookout (including Tristania Falls section) remains closed until further notice, due to severe flooding causing damage to infrastructure.
    The western part of Syndicate walking track is closed from Tuesday 16 January 2024 until further notice. NPWS staff are working to assess the damage and repair options. The area will reopen when safe.
    There is no access to Tristania Falls until further notice.

  133. Closed areas: Closed roads due to Ex-tropical cyclone Alfred and subsequent wet weather events in New England NP, Dunggir NP and Gumbaynggirr NP & SCA
    Closed roads in New England NP, Dunggir NP and Gumbaynggirr NP & SCA due to Ex-tropical cyclone Alfred and additional subsequent flood events. 
    Road blocks have been installed on the Horseshoe road to prevent vehicle movements at the Killikrankie Mountain Lookout intersection in the north and at Kilprotay Road intersection to the south. In addition, Kilprotay road has developed a natural road blockage about 3.5 km from the intersection with the Horseshoe road.
    Additional road closures are in place in New England NP in the Comara Range area due to multiple landslips.
    Affected roads include:
    • Horseshoe Road – culvert blow out and undermining of road, no through access. Remediation beginning Jan 2026 when weather suitable for equipment access across wet roads. 
    • Gaddes Ridge Road – major landslip, no through access. An independent geotechnical engineer's assessment has identified an unacceptable risk of ongoing landslip, this road will remain closed for an indefinite period. Alternate is via Cedar road.
    These closures will remain in place until geohazard assessments can be undertaken and works completed.  You may need to reschedule your visit and avoid travel through areas in these parks. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

    Access to Kosekai Lookout is currently NOT possible via Hanging Rock Road due to a section of Hanging Rock Road being damaged during March 2021 flooding event.  The damaged section of road is managed by Forestry Corporation.  Access to the lookout is now only possible in 4WD vehicles from the south via Boat Harbour Road and then turning onto Kosekai Road

    Dalmeny Bridge and access to the beach via the bridge will be closed temporarily during the hours of 8:30 am until 4 pm weekdays from 11th December 2025 until 18th December 2025, due to repairs to the boardwalk.

    Closed areas: Blackfellows Point Beach Access stairs - closed
    The Access stairs / walking track to Blackfellows Point Beach remains closed due to winter storm damage. No alternative access is available to Blackfellows Point Beach.
    NPWS has scheduled works to restore access by 24th December, weather permitting. Updates will be posted asap.
    Visitors are asked to avoid visiting this area until works have been completed. For your safety, do not attempt to enter the closed area, Penalties apply for non-compliance

    Safety alerts: Bingi Dreaming track - Closed and open coastal lakes and lagoons
    Bingi Dreaming track crosses openings to several Intermittently Closed and Open Coastal Lakes and Lagoons (ICOLLS). Openings of these lakes and lagoons are often unpredictable and can be quite dramatic. Please be aware that although lakes are usually only open for short periods (weeks), they can be impassable when open.
    The Coila Lake opening is at the southern end of Bingi Dreaming track. Please check if this lake is open before you set out. If the opening is impassable, you won't be able to access the village of Tuross to complete the walk.

    Other planned events: Notice of 1080 ongoing baiting program
    NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Monday 25 August 2025 to Monday 23 February 2026. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and/or foxes.
    The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species and will take place in:
    • Araluen Nature Reserve
    • Badja Swamps Nature Reserve
    • Beowa National Park
    • Berlang State Conservation Area
    • Bondi Gulf Nature Reserve

    Please be advised that Transport for NSW will be undertaking bridge decking maintenance and upgrades to Cawleys Bridge between 29th September 2025 and February 2026.
    Cawleys bridge connects Cawleys Road between Heathcote National Park and Garawarra State Conservation Area.
    Works will be intermittent during this time.
    Vehicle and public access will remain largely unaffected, with select days, being restricted access. Please follow the signs and direction of staff and contractors onsite.

    Trucks and heavy machinery will be transporting materials along Sunnyside Ridge Rd between Thursday 4 December to Friday 30 January 2025 for campground upgrades. Drive safely and follow the directions of roadwork signs.

    Closed areas: Road Works for Western Boundary and Camp Road
    National Parks and Wildlife Service are undertaking road improvement works at the area west of Glowworm Tunnel Road from Western Boundary Road to Fire Trail No. 1. It is closed for construction of visitor infrastructure works. The closure will be in place for at least 12 months while works continue. Access to Broad Swamp walking tracks remains open. There will be truck and heavy vehicle movement on Glow Worm Tunnel Road. Visitors must slow down being vigilant of road signs and heavy vehicle movement.
    During the closure, there is no public access to:
    • Western Boundary Road
    • Red Hill Road
    • Camp Road
    • Newnes Afforestation Camp
    • Any roads within the closed area including access to the southern end of Carne Creek Canyon.

    During the closure, there is no public access to:
    • Western Boundary Road
    • Red Hill Road
    • Camp Road
    • Newnes Afforestation Camp
    • Any roads within the closed area including access to the southern end of Carne Creek Canyon
    Closures are in place to enable the construction of:
    • Forest Campground (at the old Newnes Afforestation Camp Ruins) which will include 50 bookable sites, group campground and picnic area
    • Upgrading roads for 2WD access
    • Rehabilitation of damaged and eroded areas
     
    Information for camping:
    Bush camping is allowed at sites further than 200 metres from park infrastructure such as roads, walking tracks and lookouts.

    Safety alerts: Haulage trucks using Old Bells Line of Rd
    Haulage trucks are in operation along Old Bells Line of Rd between the park entrance near Chifley Road (Zig Zag Railway) and Clarence Sands during the following times:
    • Monday to Friday: 04.00 to 18.00
    • Saturday: 04.00 to 13.00
     
    During these times road users are reminded to:
    • drive with caution
    • adhere to the speed limit of 40 km/hr
    • listen for truck movements via UHF-11

    Lost City North Road is closed from Friday 16th May 2025 for improvement works including road upgrades and visitor facilities.
    Lost City Walking Track is accessible via Lost City Road (previously known as Lost City South Road).

  146. Closed areas: Flat Rock track partial closure
    The section of Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance to the Downpatrick Street entrance, is permanently closed as the old track passes through private property near Killarney Point.
    Please note:
    • Walkers heading west should exit Flat Rock track at the eastern end of Killarney Drive and use Killarney Drive until you reach Downpatrick Street. Then walk down the street and re-enter Flat Rock track from the Downpatrick Street fire trail.

    Bents Basin SCA and Gulguer NR are closed due to pest animal control shooting operations.     Closed roads in New England NP, Dunggir NP and Gumbaynggirr NP & SCA due to Ex-tropical cyclone Alfred and additional subsequent flood events. 
    Road blocks have been installed on the Horseshoe road to prevent vehicle movements at the Killikrankie Mountain Lookout intersection in the north and at Kilprotay Road intersection to the south. In addition, Kilprotay road has developed a natural road blockage about 3.5 km from the intersection with the Horseshoe road.
    Additional road closures are in place in New England NP in the Comara Range area due to multiple landslips.
    Affected roads include:
    • Horseshoe Road – culvert blow out and undermining of road, no through access. Remediation beginning Jan 2026 when weather suitable for equipment access across wet roads. 
    • Gaddes Ridge Road – major landslip, no through access. An independent geotechnical engineer's assessment has identified an unacceptable risk of ongoing landslip, this road will remain closed for an indefinite period. Alternate is via Cedar road.
    These closures will remain in place until geohazard assessments can be undertaken and works completed.  You may need to reschedule your visit and avoid travel through areas in these parks. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

    Please be advised that Transport for NSW will be undertaking bridge decking maintenance and upgrades to Cawleys Bridge between 29th September 2025 and February 2026.
    Cawleys bridge connects Cawleys Road between Heathcote National Park and Garawarra State Conservation Area.
    Works will be intermittent during this time.
    Vehicle and public access will remain largely unaffected, with select days, being restricted access. Please follow the signs and direction of staff and contractors onsite.

    Other feral animals, including rabbits and foxes, will be targeted if observed during the operations.

    Harry Graham Drive will be open to traffic for the Christmas break from Saturday 20 December 2025.
     
    The road will close for works to continue from Monday 19 January 2026.
     
    After this time the road will be closed in both directions between Wollongong Motorcycle Club and Kembla Village until mid-late 2026 (weather permitting), to allow Wollongong City Council to carry out essential road maintenance and upgrades.

    Recent heavy rain has created hazardous track conditions on the Wodi Wodi Walking Track between the Forest Walk and Stanwell Park Train Station. The track is currently experiencing erosion, fallen trees and landslips. It is not suitable for most walkers. 
    Please consider alternative walking tracks in the area.

    A new revetment (seawall) along the Botany Bay foreshore will replace the temporary sandbags which have been in place since 2018. A revetment is a permanent structure which protects the foreshore from storm surges and tides.
    A works compound is established at Beach Park and access to the works site will be along Monument Track. Some closures and restrictions to access will take place as materials are moved to the foreshore.
    Please be mindful of site fencing and follow instructions from NPWS staff and contractors.

    Closed areas: Kurnell Visitor Centre closed
    Kurnell Visitor Centre is currently closed and will remain closed until 2026. A new visitor centre is under construction.
    During construction works, the precinct, including the carpark, will be fenced off and work crews will be on-site. Access to some walking tracks will be impacted. Please refer to on-site signage.
    Parking and toilets are available at the Cricket Pitch and Commemoration flat precincts.

    Closed areas: Skylight Cave permanently closed
    Skylight cave is permanently closed to visitors due to serious safety risks. The cave is midway down an unstable cliff, and the risk of falling off the cliff edge while trying to reach it makes it very dangerous. 
    There is no approved public access walking track to Skylight cave. Please do not risk your safety trying to reach this location. Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local NPWS office.

  197. Fire bans: Park Fire Ban
    A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:
    • They're under direct control of an adult
    • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
    • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)
    If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

    Safety alerts: Remote walking track conditions
    Remote routes within the Kanangra Wilderness Area including Kanangra to Katoomba (K2K) trail have been impacted by heavy fire regrowth and flood damage.
    In some places, tracks are no longer visible and are not easy to navigate, taking longer to traverse than expected. Limited to zero water sources are currently available along routes.
    If you plan to walk in the area, please ensure you have an appropriate level of experience, navigation skills and equipment including Personal Locator Beacon (PLB).
    Mobile reception is limited so alternative communication methods are strongly recommended.

    Other planned events: Notice of ongoing 1080 baiting program
    NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Friday 2 May 2025 to Friday 1 May 2026 in the following areas:
    • Abercrombie River National Park
    • Abercrombie River State Conservation Area
    • Kanangra-Boyd National Park
    • Blue Mountains National Park (southern section)
    • Wollemi National Park (Wolga)
    • Gardens of Stone National Park
    • Jenolan Karst Conservation Area
    • Turon National Park
    • Marrangaroo National Park
    The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.
    The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
    Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

    All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

    Little Mountain Road and Little Mountain campground are closed while repairs and upgrades to the campground are being planned and delivered.
    Barricades are in place around the closed areas. Tattersalls campground and Double Wharf picnic area remain open.
